Meet Martin Hannaford, Inventor of The Ski Mojo

The inventor of the Ski Mojo, Martin Hannaford, will be present at the show to help fit new Ski Mojos. If you are a first time buyer, you can take advantage of Martin’s expert knowledge and have your new Ski Mojo fitted by the man who knows them better than anyone.

He can also answer your questions and help with any adjustments you need if you are a Ski Mojo customer.

More than just the Ski Mojo at the National Snow Show

As well as Ski Mojo there’s plenty else to find out about at the National Snow Show. Olympic stars of past, present and future will be there, including Dave Ryding, Chemmy Alcott, Aimee Fuller, Jenny Jones and Lesley McKenna.

The show is open from 10am to 6pm on both Saturday 19th October and 10am to 4pm Sunday 20th October.

“The best snowboarding holiday ever”

The good news is that it can! We heard recently from Keith, a snowboarder who lives in Germany.

“I tried and bought the Ski Mojo last week and it was the best snowboarding holiday I ever had.”

“I have a metal prosthesis in my right knee and previously was only able to go on the easier slopes.

“After 2-3 hours, even with lots of breaks, I had pain in my knees and legs and manoeuvring around was difficult.”

Chemmy at our stand at the 2018 London Ski Show

Although this is technically a ‘media only’ event, we have special dispensation from the organisers to invite members of the public to join us.

Chemmy will be available from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Chris Smith from Dick’s Board Store in Sheffield will also be available to help with fittings and answer questions.

The Ski Mojo stand will be just to the left of the stairs on the top floor, where the café and bar area is located.

“As we come to the end of winter, I have a lot to look back on and be thankful for. An absolute highlight was skiing with my incredible mum, who was flying down the Bochard red run in Argentiere at 75 years young, my true everyday inspiration!”

Age doesn’t matter

But the BBC Ski Sunday presenter insists that a lack of confidence should never be a reason not to ski…and the Ski Mojo can help with that.

Women less likely to ski as they age

Research by the National Ski Areas Association in the USA has shown that women make up a declining percentage of skiers as the population ages.

At age 40, women make up around half of skiers and snowboarders, but by age 47 that has fallen to 40%, and by 67, only 30% of skiers and snowboarders are women.

Some older women have injuries that prevent them from skiing, while others lack confidence to return to the slopes.

Quickly back on the slopes

Alcott was skiing again shortly after giving birth to her two children:

“I was really lucky to return to skiing two weeks after giving birth to my two boys, but I had incredible support from my family and my Ski Mojo.”

In discussion with Iain Martin from The Ski Podcast, she took us behind the scenes at Ski Sunday and the challenges that injuries have presented her over the years (something her Ski Mojo has helped with).

Chemmy reveals how she managed to slalom on 100 year-old skis with the Ladies Ski Club; meeting up with Dave Ryding in Kitzbuhel in the summer; and what it was like skiing the downhill course at this year’s World Championships.

She lists the (many, many) injuries she’s had over the years and how the Ski Mojo has helped her overcome them.
