Rick Stevens first developed symptoms of MS in 2015, but thanks to the Ski Mojo is still skiing despite numbness caused by Multiple Sclerosis.
“Loss of control and stability due to MS”
Five years ago, Rick’s MS reduced his skiing to a snowplough, after a history of annual ski trips:
“My wife and I grew up skiing. Consequently, our now adult children developed the passion at an early age with annual family ski trips out west.”
“They have not missed a trip for the past 24 years… it is what we ‘do’ as a family.”
“However, in 2015 I started to develop symptoms of MS that include a progressive loss of sensation (and thus feedback) in my legs from the hips down. My feet and legs, from the knee down, are now numb.”
“This has led to loss of control and stability with increased fatigue.”
“Symptoms reached a point a few years ago that I did not have the control or strength to stay on the mountain safely – all I could do was snowplough.”
“Skiing would be over for me otherwise“
Rick’s life changed when he met another MS skier and started his research on the internet:
“As I struggled down the top of Banff Sunshine Village, I saw an older woman with external rods that went from her boots to her hips. We spoke in the lift line and it transpired that she suffered from MS as well.”
“While the concept of external support was intriguing, the ‘mechanics’ and safety did not make sense.”
“Following an extensive search on the web, I found Ski Mojo.”
“The design and obvious direct leg support provided made sense to me. I was willing to make the investment, untried or unseen, as skiing would be over for me otherwise.”
“It was literally like flipping a switch”
Rick’s first trip after buying the Ski Mojo was to Squaw Valley. After skidding down on his first run he activated his Ski Mojo after the next ride to the top:
“Wow! That’s all I can say…and all that my friends could say!”
“It was literally like ‘flipping a switch’ on my control, ability, confidence, and endurance.”
“I was back to ‘full-on’ front-side ripping and skiing the whole day! There was virtually no learning curve as I was straight back into skiing.”
“The Ski Mojo surprised me…”
Since then, Rick has regularly been enjoying family and friends ski vacations:
“I have learned that I do better with a greater carve radius ski (it’s easier to control the turn) and I stay off the bumps as I lack the strength to get back up after a fall. I remain upright on the groomers and do not ski alone.”
“Over the past year, I developed a spasm in my left leg, and it will randomly supinate then give out.”
“Again, I thought that skiing was over, but the Ski Mojo further surprised me by controlling the rapid loss of left-leg support and limits the supination.”
“The Ski Mojo has restored my skiing abilities, enthusiasm and confidence”
Currently Rick has been using the Ski Mojo for over four years, including 10 days of Rocky Mountain skiing a year. You can usually find Rick at Park City, Snowbasin, Breckenridge, A-Basin or Banff in Canada.
“The Ski Mojo has restored my skiing abilities, rejuvenated my enthusiasm and confidence. It has allowed me to continue the tradition of great family and friend ski trips.”
“Though everyone experiences MS differently, the Ski Mojo works exactly as promoted – it is high quality, comfortable to wear, and mechanically and functionally sound.”
“I highly recommend giving the Ski Mojo a try – you will be hooked!”
