Rich Evans from Chichester, has been using the Ski Mojo to keep skiing after an ACL rupture. He told us about why he loves his Ski Mojo.
ACL Rupture while playing football
“My original injury was almost 25 years ago now. I suffered a complete rupture of my ACL in my left knee while playing football.”
Rich’s original injury was followed up with further operations to repair the meniscus and then to clean up the cartilage and he now suffers from arthritis in that knee.
Previously wore a knee brace
That didn’t stop Rich from skiing though:
“I did three ski seasons in the 90s working for tour operators, and then set up my own chalet company in Courchevel.”
“All in all, I did around 15 seasons altogether. All that time, I skied with a bad knee, wearing a hinged brace.”
“Unfortunately about five years ago, I damaged my knee again while skipping at the gym. I was in a lot of pain and struggling to walk up and down stairs. I was convinced I would need more surgery.”
“If I knew then what I knew now I would have bought the Ski Mojo regardless”
Rich was told that his only real hope was have to knee realignment (osteotomy) surgery – a procedure which would break his femur and then have it realigned to relieve the pressure on the knee.
He even had a date booked with for this operation, but a last-minute conversation with a physio persuaded him to change his mind.
“It was around this time that the Ski Mojo came into my life. I have to be completely honest: I didn’t pay for it as I reviewed it for Fall Line Magazine.”
“I was a little sceptical before I tried it, but if I knew then what I knew now I would have bought it regardless.”
“After a heavy day, my knee would swell up I’d have to manage the hours I’d ski overall. Now I don’t ski without the Ski Mojo. If I forget to click it in I notice immediately.”
“It’s worth every penny”
Rich is now a complete Ski Mojo convert:
“It’s worth every penny: it’s saved my ski career. My knee will still swell after a couple of big days on the slopes but I can still get back out the next day.The Ski Mojo means I can ski longer and as often as I want to. This winter I skied six weeks!”
Rich has had to give up running, racket sports and football (“Even a 15-minute football kickabout will see a lot of swelling on it the next day”), but he has learnt to live with it, keeps active and with the Ski Mojo has been able to keep skiing.
“I’ve used the Ski Mojo on moguls and for telemarking as well. It supports you and gives you cushioning.”
“It is the equivalent of an e-bike really: it means you can just cover more ground.”
